NIT-Calicut(National Institute of Technology- Calicut) is one of the premier NITs of India. It has quite good placements , as we shall see in this article.
The official website , gives quite little information. Relevant to us would be the last 2 years placements stats of BE Degree .
To understand clearly how the data has been given , we need to understand the format:
(Branch : EL-PL-DR-%)
where EL-Eligible students, PL-Placed, DR-Dream jobs (Students who got more than one job), %-Percentage of placement.
The Branches are: Computer Science & Engineering ,Electronics & Communication Engineering ,Electrical & Electronics Engineering ,Mechanical Engineering ,Production Engineering,Chemical Engineering.
Clearly the averages are quite good , especially for the CS/EE related branches and Mechanical. All branches show a good % of placement.
According to The Hindu newspaper, for the BE degree students being placed in 08-09 :
309 B.Tech. students got 484 job offers, 97 per cent placements. Of these, 175 students got more than one offer.
Highest salary offered was Rs.12 lpa to 3 CS students by DE Saw Research, an IT consulting company. The lowest salary offered was Rs.3 llpa. (Last year, the highest was Rs.10 lpa ,lowest Rs.2.2 lpa ).This is a good improvement. However , since the highest is 12 lpa , it is unlikely that NIT-C had any foreign placements(which are usually over $50,000 pa).
The average salary remained almost same (Rs 4.75 lpa to Rs.4.8 lakh lpa). This is good , considering that there is a recession on currently. The no. of students wrt. salary range chart is given below:

Till February, 95 companies visited the campus (from August 2008 to February 2009). Out of these, 43 were engineering and manufacturing sector companies, 33 were IT product based companies, 9 consulting companies, 6 ITES companies, 2 were banking companies and 2 others.10 (PSUs) recruited 25 per cent of the graduates.
97% of the students got placement in core engineering areas while rest in ITES sectors.Note that "Core" term may have been misused , as they may have considered IT as "Core" for CS.Even though Goldman Sachs is Investment Bank , they usually give IT Jobs(at good salaries though) to engineering graduates. They do not usually give Analyst positions to engineering grads , preferring to hire MBAs instead.(However , at IITs and BITS-Pilani , I-Banks do give junior Analyst positions to engg. grads. But this is very rare , just a couple of students from the whole batch get it.)
